The policy of the Kutai Regency Government to make Erau a cultural party is by setting a regular time for Erau to be held in September in connection with the anniversary of the city of Tenggarong, the capital of Kutai Kartanegara Regency and the Kutai Kartanegara Sultanate.
The Erau Festival, which has now been included in the national tourism calendar of events, is no longer associated with the cultural arts of the Kutai Kartanegara Palace but is more varied with various artistic and cultural performances that exist and live and develop throughout the Kutai Kartanegara Regency.
